World Network of Users and Survivors of Psychiatry (WNUSP) accepted as authority by WFMH

At this year's general assembly of the WFMH on July 9th following resolution was proposed on behalf of George H. Ronald and Peter Lehmann, members of the World Network of Users and Survivors of Psychiatry (WNUSP) and members of the European Regional Council of the World Federation for Mental Health.

We, the (ex-) users and survvivors of psychiatry, gathered in Lahti, Finland, July 1997 during the World Congress for Mental Health, have established the World Network of Users and Survivors of Psychiatry (WNUSP). We have elected an International Panel of (ex-) Users and Survivors of Psychiatry. The purpose of this panel is to provide a meaninigful participation to ensure input and influence for our interests in international organisations and new international organising initiatives such as the U.N., W.H.O., W.F.M.H., etc. We consider ourselfes to be the authority on (ex-) users' and survivors' issues and demand the right to be involved in all international affairs including the recently mentioned WFMH panel. We urge to be accepted as this panel, if necessary by means of a vote today.

The resolution was accepted by WFMH after a short discussion.
